Background Investigations for Cannabis Businesses

Background investigations are a critical element of the cannabis industry, as they’re so often required by regulating agencies. For example, the State of Michigan performs an extensive, deep background investigation on every license applicant for a cannabis business. It’s important to know that many minor prior issues are irrelevant to the licensing process if disclosed correctly in the application. If left undisclosed, however, those unmentioned facts can provide the basis to deny it.

Additionally, the law requires a background investigation of every employee of the licensee. The law prohibits hiring employees with certain prior or pending legal matters without regulatory approval.

Contact the Experienced Background Investigators at CCA Advisors

At Cendrowski Corporate Advisors, our dedicated team of investigators will scour relevant histories to identify potential items for disclosure in the application process. We can also provide pre-employment background screenings. As with all of our services, the results of our background investigations processes are strictly confidential.

There’s a reason most family offices keep leverage low. After living through 2008–2010, many learned how quickly over-leverage can turn a paper fortune into a liquidity crisis. When capital calls come due and exits stall, debt becomes a liability you can’t unwind fast enough. Experienced investors know when to dial leverage up—or down—but for most, […]
